We need to dumb this connection down.
First install and test with the installed Connect client running on the server. I realize that limited use contracts only apply to Notes IM connections, but for testing purposes we shoud try both Connect.exe and the Sametime connect for browsers client. 1) Run and test both Connect and Connect for browsers on the Sametime server and confirm that this works or fails. In these tests, use on the Options - preferences - Sametime Connectivity - Hosts tab both the fqhn, and IP address of the Sametime server in subsequent tests. If this fails, we will need to know what directory type is being used (domino or ldap or domino ldap) and additinal information will be requested.
If this works, test on the users workstation using the same connect clients. If this fails, you will need to review the configuration of the ST server and any firewall / network settings between user and Server. Telnet to the port from the users workstation using the FQHN of the sametime server over port 1533 (telnet stserver.domain.com 1533) and see if this answers or not. The error you receive translates to connection refused. This is typically a firewall issue.
Please run the above tests and post your findings.
